Susan Ritson - Personal profile

Susan Ritson - Clinical HypnotherapistHindsight is always a valuable tool, and I realise that if I had 'found' clinical hypnotherapy a number of years earlier I would have been in a better position to help my father manage his extreme pain as a sufferer of osteoporosis. However, life gave me another extremely painful nudge in the hypnotherapy direction when I fell downstairs and fractured my spine. Visualisation and relaxation became a way of life during my recovery, providing me with an alternative focus to my pain and resulting in a huge amount of pain relief.

This enforced period off work gave me time to reflect which resulted in my decision to give up a long career in Civil Aviation which started as Cabin Crew (excellent background for helping clients with Aerophobia) and cumulated as a specialist consultant to airports and airlines worldwide on airport systems, to train and practice as a Clinical Hypnotherapist.

I trained as a Clinical Hypnotherapist at The Clifton Practice (CPHT) Bristol, one of the leading Hypnotherapy colleges, which has Direct Claim Status with the NCFE and their advanced courses are all externally verified.  I also a trained at CPHT in Solution Focused Brief Therapy Supervision for Hypnotherapists and now supervise other qualified hypnotherapists.

I furthered my training with courses in Pain Management with the Medical Hypnotherapy Training in London and to underpin my work with children, who respond very well to the Solution Focused approach, a course in Child Psychology. I have also attended training, seminars and masterclasses in various disciplines such as, Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness and The Addicted Brain and many others. I recently achieved my British Psychological Society approved Certificate in 3rd Wave Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

I am also an Anxiety UK approved therapist providing therapeutic support to the charity’s members and partner beneficiaries. I am subject to Anxiety UK’s regular monitoring of my professional qualifications, supervision, continual professional development, insurance and professional body membership in addition to complying with the ethical framework and professional standards set down by my registered governing body.
